I sent my daughter a Glock 17 and now all of a sudden it seems Gen is important in California. Is there anyplace I can check the Gen of the pistol using the serial number? I am sure it has been asked before but I can't find any answers. Any help would be appreciated. Just call Glock an give them the serial number and they can tell you the exact date it was assemble in Georgia. Make sure all three serial numbers on the pistol match exactly. Remember if you live in the U.S. Your Glock will be assembled. And, sadly you can not buy from Glock Austria.
Glock has been around since 1963 and in 1981 Glock handguns as we know them were born. Glock categorizes their guns as Generation 1, Generation 2, Generation 3, Generation 4, and recently Generation 5. On top of that, there have been changes to the line between full generations, for instance the glock 26 is available in a generation 2.5.
